Common skincare mistakes that are aging you

When we were younger, and took our youth for granted, isn’t it true when I say I’m not speaking just for myself that we would invest all our hard-earned money on makeup. It was sadly when we got older that we realised radiant, healthy skin is a far more greater achievement and one that requires consistent care and maintenance.

Thankfully good skin isn’t all that elusive and as long as you’re not making these skincare mistakes, you too can reap the benefits of a good skincare regime.

Confusing skincare with skin health

Many women think that antiaging is a compartment altogether separate from skin health but the best antiaging treatment is simply to keep your skin healthy! And that means knowing your skin, and understanding the right balance between hydration and yes even oil content in your skin.

Not washing your face enough

The best way to ensure your face is well cleansed is through double cleansing. The process of double cleansing basically starts you off with an oil-based cleanser to get rid of all the makeup, dirt and grime off your face, followed by a water-based cleanser. A well cleaned face not only feels good, it also preps your skin for all the other products you are about to slather on your face.

Applying products in the wrong order

When it comes to skincare products, you’d realise your facial toner doesn’t have the same consistency as your essence, serums and moisturisers. This simply means there’s a method and specific order to apply your products on your face, always starting with the lightest consistency and ending with the thickest consistency, usually a moisturising cream. By following this simple rule, you ensure that all the skincare is well absorbed into your skin and does the work it’s supposed to.

Forgetting sunscreen

It can never be emphasised enough how important sunscreen is for your skin. It’s so important that if there’s only 1 skincare product you can use, you can skip everything else but sunscreen. Be it rain or shine, hot or cold, sunscreen is a must; it protects your skin from sun damage which we all know is responsible for lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. So if you don’t want to look older than you really are, sunscreen is a good bet.

Skincare stops at your jawline

It’s a common misconception and practice that skincare stops at your jawline. The neck area is often neglected even though the skin at this area is more delicate than the skin on your face. Over time, it’s possible to end up with a neck that looks older than your face. Don’t let your neck be the one to give your age away and be sure to give it some TLC too.
